Mamas on Bedrest: Are You Depressed? Be a Part of the Solution!

September 7th, 2011

I am calling on all Mamas on Bedrest: if you are depressed or even feel you may be depressed as a result of your bed rest prescription, I want to invite you to be a part of the solution. Mamas on Bedrest & Beyond is participating in a research study on Post Partum Depression as a result of bed rest.

The study will be conducted by Dr. Judith Maloni and her colleagues at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western University and funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health. This is really awesome because while it has been established that bed rest is a contributing factor to post partum depression, no one has really looked closely at the impact that bed rest has on post partum depression, nor have women on bed rest been included in such studies. With modern technology (the internet) Mamas on Bedrest can now be active participants in this research and quite possibly affect the quality and design of their care. In the coming weeks, we will be asking you to participate in surveys online as part of this research. We will inform you of the requirements and how to consent to participate.

I am thrilled about this research as it is the realization of one of my goals for Mamas on Bedrest & Beyond. When I started this business, one of my goals was to participate in research that would determine ways to better serve, support and treat Mamas on Bedrest. I started this business in August 2009 and here we are in the fall of 2011 achieving a major goal-a mere 2 years later!

So while this post is not heavily detailed, stay tuned as specific details will follow once Dr. Maloni and her colleagues get the go ahead and put all the necessary parameters in place.

Thanks in advance for your participation and here’s to being a part of the solution!
