Mamas on Bedrest: With Ebates You Get Paid for Your Holiday Shopping!

December 10th, 2012

I’m always on the lookout for things that will make life for Mamas on Bedrest easier. Ebates will not only make holiday shopping for Mamas on Bedrest easier, it will also enable Mamas to earn a bit of cash back on their purchases.

I didn’t know much about Ebates until last week. I was talking to my sister and telling her how I had done most of my Christmas shopping online this year when she said to me, “Are you on Ebates? You should be, you’ll get money back.”  Now I am in favor of anything that gives cash back! So I decided to take a look.

Ebates describes themselves as “the pioneer and leader of online cash back shopping. Ebates pays members cash back every time they shop online as well as provide them with the best coupons and deals online.”

Ebates was started in 1998 in Silicon Valley by 2 Deputy District Attorneys. These guys spent much of their careers prosecuting people for online fraud, and as a result, decided to start a reputable online shopping platform. The difference between Ebates and other online shopping sites is that the founders are not keeping the compensation from the participating stores. They actually give their compensation to their consumers in the form of rebates. So when people shop via Ebates at their regular sellers, they will earn a certain percentage of their purchase as a cash back rebate.

So what have mamas got to lose?  There you are, on bed rest and not able to get out to the stores to make your holiday purchases. (Although, having been at the Mall, I’m not sure you’re really missing anything!) Many of us are doing most of our holiday shopping on line anyway.

I personally try to patronize local businesses. As an entrepreneur, I like to help other entrepreneurs/small businesses succeed. But I can’t tell you the businesses that I went into-large chains as well as small one unit operations- that did not have what I wanted on hand and advised me to go online to their websites to purchase what I wanted. So after a bit, I didn’t even bother to go to the mall, I simply went on my computer, got what I wanted and had it either shipped to my home or directly to my loved one (another perk as I don’t currently live close to any family members and would be shipping their gifts to them.)

Take a look at Ebates. There is no cost to sign up and quite frankly, if you are unsure, there is no pressure to visit your preferred shops via their site. However, if you are already going to shop online, and Ebates has your particular shop as one of its partners, why not get some cash back and make it a very happy holiday?
