Mamas on Bedrest AntePartum Doula Training Program

There is nothing more important than a mama being worry free and comfortable while pregnant!

When a mama learns that there are complications with her pregnancy and that she needs to restrict her activity and/or go on bedrest, her stress level soars! She is fraught with anxiety, worried for her baby and wondering what she must have done to cause this situation. She may feel alone and not know where to turn for information, advice or support

The Mamas on Bedrest AntePartum Doula is a pregnancy companion specially trained to comfort and support high risk pregnant women on bed rest.

The Mamas on Bedrest AntePartum Doula training program is developed upon evidence-based practices. Doulas in the training program will learn:

  • The history of the bedrest prescription and why it is used
  • Common pregnancy complications for which bedrest is prescribed, and treatments mamas may be taking or undergoing while on bedrest
  • The role of the Bedrest Doula-Non medical, ancillary support for mama and her family (It’s not just mama! Mamas on Bedrest Doulas will be caring for the entire family and household!)
  • How best to care for and support the “family” on bedrest
  • The Business side of bedrest

During the six weeks of the course, participants will

  • Engage in self study of the assigned modules.
  • Attend weekly 2 hour live classes online in which the assigned material will be reviewed and questions answered. This is the time for group discussion and sharing of tips and ideas.
  • Pass a quiz on each module. Following each live class, the quiz for that module will become available. Participants must pass each quiz with an 80 or better.(Recordings will be available for those unable to attend live sessions. It is critical that participants attend or listen to the live recordings as some quiz questions will come from the live sessions.)
  • In addition to the coursework, participants will be required to attend to 3 Mamas on Bedrest (and preferably one on hospital bed rest). Participants will need to submit a self evaluation of each mama served and obtain an evaluation from each mama served.  (6 evaluations in total.)
  • Participants will also have access to two private coaching sessions with instructor Darline Turner; one 30 minute session at the start of the course and one 60 minute session during the course and hands on work with the mamas. These sessions can be used to get laser focus instruction on particular aspects of the curriculum, challenges they may face while tending to mamas or for business development.
  • A private Facebook page for group discussion, sharing tips and for asking questions. This is also where to access the live sessions.
  • Email access to Darline Turner for other private questions.

**The course begins on March 19th and participants will have until June 30 to complete the hands on portion of the training.**

Successful Completion of the course requires:

  • Passage of all 6 module Quizzes with an 80 or above
  • Serving 3 Mamas on Bedrest and submission of evaluations from both the mama on bedrest and the doula’s self reflection (6 evaluations total).
